Mumbwa is emerging as a key gold mining hub in Zambia, with significant exploration projects, government-backed processing facilities, and potential economic benefits exceeding $5 billion. Exploration and Mineral Resources The Mumbwa Gold Mine, located in Zambia’s Central Province, is one of the country’s largest gold prospects. Gao Ore Tech and Minerals Ltd holds an exploration license covering 31,946 hectares, with only 6.5% of the area explored to date. Initial exploration has identified gold ore occurrences averaging 4.33 g/t in oxidized quartz veins, with trenching revealing a gold reef averaging 2.58 g/t over 3 meters. Metallurgical tests indicate recoveries above 85%, and mineralization is structurally controlled within ferruginous quartz veins along a 4.8 km shear zone. The project aims to increase resource inventory in two phases, potentially reaching 620,000 ounces of gold, valued at approximately $1 billion.

Tantalite Mining

Tantalite Mining in Southern Province Southern Province, particularly in the Southern Province, is rich in tantalite-bearing pegmatite formations, which yield ore of consistent grade and quality. The region is home to Gao Ore Mineral and Tech limited, which is actively exploring tantalite and has been granted exploration licenses for lithium and other minerals. The licenses are valid for four years, during which Gao will conduct detailed exploration to identify mineable resources and reserves. This exploration aligns with the strategic plan of ZCCM Investments Holdings Plc to diversify its mineral commodity base and capitalize on the untapped potential of tantalite in the region.

Kashitu Zinc Project, located near Kabwe, is under a ten-year small-scale mining license awarded to Galileo Resources partnering with Gao Ore Minerals and Tech Limited starting March 2025. The project targets shallow open-pit mining of high-grade willemite, with historical surface mining having produced zinc grades of 30–50%. Drilling programs have identified zones of disseminated mineralization and surface enrichment, although no massive sulphide lenses have been discovered.
